The Hercules was built at Atlas as a carrier, the pride of the fleet, and during the evacuation it was reconfigured as the escape pod that would hold the future of the whole planet, with fuel scoops and a mobile factory for parts, and a few free traders docked alongside. Its white paint is well worn by now. About 14,000 civilians live aboard, and the voyage from Atlas took about three years of slow travel. ‹hercules_main#965751950983430174› ‹hercules_main#995993401382141973›
Some of its carrier systems are still automatic. If the hull takes damage it goes to General Quarters and raises QECM fields on its own, which cuts all comms that are not wired. ‹hercules_main#1026977193148039168›
The districts
The ship is divided into twelve districts, among them the Farm near Agriculture, affluent Uptown, the hippie community of Zion, River around the water reclamation, the Junkyard, the crime-ridden Lair, La Puerta in the original loading hangar, Hudsonville, the poorest blue-collar district, and Caringal Center, controlled by Caringal Industries. ‹hercules_main#1005178900076310628›
Its medical bay has two operating theatres and fourteen beds as well as a bioresearch lab under Dr Jahori Okoro, and the deck also holds the Moonfyre Bar, the Hole in the Wall (an intelligence watering hole near the bow), the Agriculture Deck, the Department of State, the Academy in the Lair and the Speghti Embassy. ‹hercules_main#995993401382141973›
On board
Life aboard was not always peaceful. Sergeant Escobar held three workers hostage in the cafeteria, and all three died when his dead-man switch fired. Ola Hudson was arrested on its bridge in fortnight 18 of 3200, and the March went to Caringal Center the fortnight after. Mordred himself was first woken in its cargo bay, stored as heavy machinery. ‹hercules_main#1015389294887714889› ‹hercules_main#973667081537081364›
Fate
Once the Fleet reached Calypso the Council voted to salvage the Hercules for the colony, and it was left a husk with only its combat fittings working. It was destroyed in the first round of the Battle of Calypso, while the first thousand civilians got away through the gate. ‹notices#1030626360160440353› ‹calypso_ship_combat_action_log#1077729549925761034›
