Mandate Era

The frontier world of Atlas was a minor blip of importance for the Terran Mandate when first found by explorers. In the year 2660, a planetary survey revealed the world was rich in resources, and industrial corporations sent colonists and equipment to stake claims and begin the work needed to colonize the planet into a new Mandate powerhouse. The vast distance between the nearest Jumpgate and Atlas required a two-month trek by the fastest ships. By 2664 The first freighters had arrived, and the planet was producing enough food to sustain the colony and its workforce which had begun to pull the raw materials from the ground.

The Silence

Atlas faired well during the period after the scream. The technology of the world was able to be adapted fairly quickly to continue the work needed to colonize the planet, and with the bondholders of the world far out of reach, there were no barriers to forming an idealistic society. By the year 3000 the world had become known for its industrial capabilities and ship manufacturing. This caused many species who encounter Atlas ships to join the planet and seek their own fortunes.

Vehedrix War

3103

In year 3103 Atlas made contact with a race called the Vehedrix. The Vehedrix are guided by a Theocracy headed by an immortal prophet who claims their genetic superiority gives them the right to subjugate all intelligent beings in the universe. When they demanded the servitude of Atlas and its inhabitants, the admiral of the 4th Fleet, J.

R. Rackham, explained to the captain of the Vehedrix ship, Destiny, that he would not place the fleet under the command of a “whackjob”. This was not received well. The war with the Vehedrix Theocracy raged from that day, slowly pressing the Atlas Fleets back to their core system.

3197

The year 3197 brought the Vehedrix a series of victories against the Atlas Fleets devastating the defences of Atlas. The shipyards at Atlas 4 were engaged in producing and repairing the ships that would form the 12th fleet as the Vehedrix arrived. The remnants of the 7th and 11th fleets joined together and launched an offensive against the Vehedrix staging station on the outer fringes of the Atlas system. The 12th Fleet launched without ceremony or even a full complement of ships. The shipyards were pushed to the limits, often ignoring safety for any edge they could to reconfigure the Hercules from a combat carrier to a lifeboat for the people of Atlas. The 7th and 11th fleets fell silent on the radios as planet-killing missiles were hurled through the system at the homeworld, the 12th fleet left Atlas riding the multidimensional currents for over three years on a catastrophic blind jump.
