Origin traits as approved in content ideas and listed on the old site's player homebrew page.

Environmental Native: Space
No need to breathe; as the Pressure Field technique (Moves in any direction in microgravity; floats about 1 m above surfaces that bear 5 kg in normal gravity or less; immune to falling damage)
Starlight
An hour a day of light from a star in the same system replaces food (Without eating: -1 to attacks, checks and saves after a month, -2 after a year, -3 after a decade, -4 after a century)
Shapeshifting
Amoeboid; pseudopods; flows through small spaces (Volume, consistency and colour stay the same; cannot impersonate creatures or copy items; armour and cyberware must be custom-built unless Uymon'ea-made)

The Uymon'ea are a strange and rare amoeboid species native to asteroids, airless planetoids and deep space. Like the Lithoids, the Minervans and the M'Lak, they come from the sector the 12th Fleet escaped at the start of the story. Most of the time they take the shape of starry, semi-opaque spheres between one and two metres across, though they can change shape at will.

Body

They are amoeboid blobs that handle things with extruded pseudopods and can flow through small gaps. They can take almost any form, but their volume, consistency and colouring stay roughly the same, so they cannot pass for other creatures or imitate what an item does. They can speak by changing their internal structure, but would rather talk by subtly changing their shape and colour.

They do not need to breathe, and carry their own pressure field. In microgravity or less they can move in any direction, upwards included, and in normal gravity or less they float about a metre above any surface solid enough to bear five kilos, so they never take falling damage. With an hour of starlight a day from a star in the same system they can go on indefinitely without food, though going without for a long time takes its toll, from a month on.

They have no fixed lifespan, and reproduce by expelling little portions of themselves that grow into new individuals. Between the two they have an insatiable desire to explore the endless expanses of the universe.

Psychics and the Scream

A lone Uymon'ea can come and go from small bodies freely, and their natural aptitude for psychics meant there was usually one capable of telekinesis or teleportation to get the rest off a bigger planet. They built their own brand of TL4 technology, organic-looking and full of psitech, and had spike drives to go further. Then the Scream came, and with every one of them psychic it brought them to the brink of extinction. The few survivors are trying to find a way back to at least part of their former glory. Their armour and cyberware has to be custom-built, unless it comes from their own civilisation.

In the fleet

Eylis'oa, a wandering psychic who joined the fleet at Ragnhil, was one of the mysterious Uymon'ea, about whom not much is known. Anacleto Vinci is a rather independent and accomplished polymath explorer for the Uymon'ea from before they had an alliance with Atlas, centuries old, modest about their achievements but proud and always looking to do more, and a candidate for High Ambassador of Atlas in 3201.

Lenses: Curiosity, Journeying

Uymon'ea are a strange and rare amoeboid species native to asteroids, airless planetoids and deep space. Its members often assume the shape of starry, semi-opaque spheres roughly between one and two metres in diameter, although they can alter their shape at will. They can speak and produce sounds by altering their internal structure, but they prefer to communicate by subtly altering their shape and coloration. Uymon'ea don't have a fixed lifespan and reproduce by expelling little portions of themselves to eventually grow into a new individual, and these conditions inspired in them an insatiable desire to explore the endless expanses of the universe. Lone Uymon'ea can freely move to and from small celestial bodies, and their natural attitude for psychics means that an Uymon'ea capable of telekinesis or teleportation was often available to allow departure from bigger planets. Uymon'ea developed their unique brand of T4 technology, often integrating organic-looking designs and psitech in their items, and they had access to spike drives to further explore distant systems. Tragically, the Scream brought the Uymon'ea on the brink of extinction due to their innate psychic powers, and now the few survivors seek to find a way to restore at least a part of their former glory.

Environmental Native: Space

Uymon'ea don't need to breathe, and have an ability equal to the Pressure Field technique. They can move in any direction, including upwards, in microgravity or less. In normal gravity or less they can float approximately 1 metre above solid horizontal surfaces that can bear at least 5 kilos of weigh and are immune to falling damage. If exposed to light from a star in the same system at least one hour per day, Uymon'ea can survive indefinitely without food, although they suffer a penalty to all attacks, ability checks and saving throws if they don't eat for long intervals: -1 for a month, -2 for an year, -3 for a decade and -4 for a century.

Shapeshifting

Uymon'ea are amoeboid blobs that can manipulate objects with extruded pseudopods and flow through small spaces. They can assume almost any form, but their volume, consistency and coloration remain roughly the same. They can't impersonate other creatures nor duplicate the functionality of any item through this trait. Due to their unique biology, armour and cyberware for them has to be custom-built, unless it comes from their own civilization.
