The living coral the Speghti grow their fortresses from. Its walls filter the water, feeding phytoplankton to the livestock inside, and the greener areas give off nutrition of their own. With help from the Outpost humans, the Speghti gene-modified it to produce hardened materials, and the Starship-class mechs are grown from it around an Ichinoi core. During the fleet's visit it was suggested that Ichuoi walls might be used to emulate Ichinoi EM communication, which led to the organic coral transceivers.

A fortress colony can be overstrained: rushed projects that put too much system strain on a fortress risk a permanent colony collapse, and chemical weapons would kill it outright.

Dr Jahori Okoro was given four Ichuoi coral samples as a parting gift: one green, one pink, one translucent (uncoded) and one transceiver.
