Cryptlings, the "bird things" to the patrol that first met them, are ferocious flying pack predators of Tra Sakinig's skies. They have no feathers at all, just a very leathery skin, like the ancient and incorrect pictures of a pterodactyl, and a curved beak that can crack the hardest materials, the viewports of fleet shuttles included. Their usual prey is the obsidian crab, whose shell they smash open, and they like to pick prey up in their talons and drop it from a great height.

A flock brought down the When the Trees patrol's shuttle on its way to the FOB site, tearing into the viewport and killing the engines, and carried the pilot, Spacer Lee, aloft to his death. They harried Tralin Outpost after the kaiju woke, along with a kaiju-class cryptling the outpost's railgun, an anti-vehicle laser and fighters had to bring down.
